Smartex, intelligent platform for rehabilitation

Intelligent AR platform for rehabilitation: Smartex

The objective of the SMARTEX project has been to research and develop an interactive system based on games including a wireless data capture system to detect muscle fatigue through the processing of electromyography (EMG) signals in the performance of functional exercises for the rehabilitation of the upper limbs.

The project supported by the Basque Goverment´s Hazitek program, provides a wireless system detecting muscle fatigue  in a Serious Games approach for the rehabilitation of the upper limb.

Virtualware, as the project leader, has validated the value of the games to enhance/optimize rehabilitation tasks, based on the needs detected in the study group (multiple sclerosis patients). An innovative solution has been developed based on the combination of advanced hardware and interactive games to optimize physical rehabilitation processes, which has been tested on ADEMBI’s Multiple Sclerosis patients. It has been supported by the Basque Government’s HAZITEK Business R&D Programme.

The companies participating in the project have been: Virtualware 2007, S.A (leader), IHS Weigling S.L. and Asociación de Esclerosis Multiple de Bizkaia (ADEMBI) with the support of the Tecnalia Foundation as a Technology Centre.
